Overview:

In today's digital payment landscape, Financial Institutions, Third-Party Service Providers (TPSPs), and Third-Party Senders (TPS) processing Automated Clearing House (ACH) transactions face a myriad of risks. These risks are inherent in the ACH Payment System, just as in any payment system, and include Operational, Credit, Compliance, Fraud, Return, and Reputational Risks. The Nacha Operating Rules mandate that financial institutions must not only assess but also manage all ACH risks by developing a comprehensive Risk Management program.

This webinar will delve into the specific risks faced by Originating Depository Financial Institutions (ODFIs) and Receiving Depository Financial Institutions (RDFIs) involved in originating, receiving, or processing ACH transactions. It's crucial to understand that the responsibility for ACH Risk awareness and management rests with the ODFI, even when these activities are outsourced. We will explore the ODFI Risk Management Requirements as outlined in the Nacha Operating Rules, focusing on key areas such as due diligence, exposure limits, auditing, and monitoring. Additionally, we will discuss how the type of Standard Entry Class (SEC) Code used by an Originator, TPSP, or TPS dictates specific risk management requirements and warranties.

The webinar also addresses the latest Nacha Operating Rules amendment for TPS and 'nested' TPS, requiring them to conduct their own ACH Risk Assessment. This update, effective since September 2022, underlines the evolving roles and responsibilities in ACH risk management.
